I did manage to get a quilt finished for my niece's wedding. It's Modern Maze from Fons and Porter's Easy Quilts, Spring 2012. Shar quilted it for me. She bought one of the PSQ machines and is doing some custom quilting.

I can't say that I am ready yet to launch back into the quilting I loved, but I was glad to see I have not forgotten how.

Hope you are all doing well. I think of you often.

  3. Dear Julie,
I have thought about you many times since I visited your shop last January.
Yesterday, we had a "bed turning" and one of the quilts was "Shenandoah"?
It was as you know a kit from your shop and it was beautiful:)
Your quilt shop was a blessing and such a wonderful, welcoming place. My mom and I had a great time when we came to the quilts in the garden event.
I am sorry for your loss and will continue to keep you in my prayers.
    Blessings to you.

  5. Julie, What a beautiful quilt. I thought of you yesterday-I was working on table runner kit that I bought at PSQ after Christmas last year. It smelled like your shop-what pleasant memories! Sue Nielsen

  7. Dear Julie,
I have tracked you down :-) My name is Melissa Donovan and I live in South Carolina. I came across your name from a quilting forum that recommended a book called Relax and Quilt by Patricia Wilens....

    So here is my story...

My parents are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in November of 2013. I wanted to make a quilt for the two of them and had thought to do the Double Wedding Ring quilt. After much research I realized that this was an advanced quilt design. I would say I have little to no experience with quilting. I took a quilting class over 25 years ago and was unable to finish my hand pieced blocks due to some health issues at the time. I love the hand piecing aspect and really enjoyed it and am a decent seamstress currently.

When I was searching for a quilt a lady recommended the book above so I tracked the book down and it came in the mail yesterday, to find a quilt that might be easier to attempt called Chains of Love....

As I am sitting here today I see on the second page that there might be a special ruler or booklet that you might have available to help make this pattern without making triangles :-)

So I called the phone number today and saw that the shop was closed and then I found your blog and am so sorry to hear of the passing of your husband and the closing of your shop.

Would you be able to offer me any assistance in letting me know where I might find the special ruler and booklet? Would you have any left in your inventory that you would be willing to sell?

I am looking forward to attempting to make this quilt and figure if I start now, mind you I have six little children to take care of :-), I can get it done by November in time to deliver it to Idaho.

I am thankful to hear you have not completely lost your passion for quilting and pray that the Lord would bless you, give you peace and comfort and return you to a new found Joy in quilting.

    God Bless,
    Melissa Donovan

  8. Julie, what a stunning quilt and a lovely wedding gift! Surfed to your blog today to see if you had added anything new, and was glad to see the picture. I'm just now beginning my PSQ kit with the pink/grey/tan elephant fabric. It will be for our brand new grand-niece, Ariah Grace, in Tucson. Miss you. I think of you almost every day. Take care.
